The rumor I heard this weekend is that the LAUSD Road Show is no more. What that means for parents remains to be seen. But for those who are new to the games LAUSD plays, the Road Show is a LAUSD invention where principals attend, and find out how many open enrollment slots the school will have for the next year.
I've been hearing from parents and officials that LAUSD has wanted to rid the district of open enrollment slots, get rid of the trailers on campuses, and return students to their neighborhood schools (including all that new construction).
As I hear more, I'll post. The bigger issue is that open enrollment was promised for the term of the school (K-5, 6-8, 9-12, etc), unlike a child care permit that must be renewed.
Of course, there are so many other issues pending with the budget crisis including class size, among others, I'm just taking a wait and see attitude--and seriously investigating California Virtual Academy among others.

Help - Not sure if this is where I ask for help....
My daughter and I will move to LA this summer. She will be starting 9th grade and I wanted to get her into a good school. She is a straight A student now and involved in many school activities -- student council, year book, newspaper, and National Jounior Honor Society. She is also taking all the Honors courses available at her schoool.
The HS closest to where we will move is Hamilton HS. The Magnet program looks good, but the general HS does not impress. I'd like to get her into a Magent program or a charter school, but it appears unlikely based on how the LAUSD process works.
What can I do to get her into a school (Magnet or Charter) that has a good learning environment?
Is there anyway to get her into a different school district?
Thanks,
Hi!
Hi rfinnegan,
You are a bit late for magnets this year. The deadline for the program was January. There are options with open enrollment and charter schools in LA proper, but since I'm more centered in the San Fernando Valley, I'd HIGHLY recommend you repost your concerns on askamagnetyenta.wordpress.com and let them point you in the right direction.
